Between 1982 and 1993 Ralph practised primarily in the areas of insurance and industrial relations. Recognising the need to concentrate in a specialist environment, together with John Fountain Ralph established fountain+bönig in 1993. Since then Ralph has specialised in professional indemnity insurance, medical malpractice and public liability. Ralph has represented a variety of clients in complex medico-legal matters including coronial inquiries, catastrophic injury claims and mental health related issues. In addition, Ralph has appeared as counsel in all related jurisdictions both as trial counsel and at the appellate level as well as representing parties in multiple mediations as part of the firm’s recognition of the need to identify cost effective solutions to legal problems.

Ralph is married to Jez and they have two teenage sons, Karl and Erik. Outside of work Ralph likes to spend his time with his family outdoors primarily camping, fishing and sporting activities. Together with his family Ralph has travelled the north western part of Australia including the Tanami Desert and has regularly visited the bottom end of Yorke Peninsula which he has fished and camped extensively. He is actively involved in coaching junior football, holds AFL coaching accreditation and has coached at both local and representative level. Ralph is President of the Fitzroy Junior Football Club where he has coached for a number of years in addition to which he is an assistant coach at the Prospect District Junior Cricket Club.
